Parliament of Chechnya to inaugurate an alternative to Nobel Peace Prize
The Council of the Parliament of Chechnya has made a decision to establish the International Peace Prize named after the first President of the republic Ahmat-Hadji Kadyrov. The decision was made because the MPs believe that the Nobel Committee discredited itself by award the Peace Prize to US President Barack Obama.
On December 15, at the session of the Council of the Parliament, its chairman Dukvakha Abdurakhmanov said that adjudgement of the Nobel Peace Prize to the US President was a blow to the prestige of this authoritative international reward.
"Awarding the prestigious prize in peace strengthening to the person with no positive achievements in the sphere, who is running two bloody wars at a time, is extremely discrediting the prize as such," Mr Abdurakhmanov has stated.
"The Peace Prize, by its very definition, can't be given to the person who wages war in the territory of another country," the speaker has added.
In his opinion, Ahmat Kadyrov is the person, whose name can be rightfully given to the peace prize. "By the most valuable asset a human has - his own life - he brought the Chechen people to the road of peace," the "Interfax" quotes the speaker.
Alvi Karimov, press secretary of the President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, son of Ahmat-Hadji, said to the "Gazeta.Ru" that his boss had not yet expressed his attitude to the idea of the new prize.
