In Dagestan, figurants of "execution list" want to have status of witnesses under state protection

Today, Isalmagomed Nabiev, one of the figurants of the so-called "execution list", a publicist, human rights activist and chairman of independent trade union of drivers and businessmen of Dagestan, has stated that so far the corresponding instances gave no reaction to his request to protect him with state defence.

"Journalist of the 'Novoe Delo' Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, whose name is also mentioned in the 'execution list', and I have addressed the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan with a demand to ensure our state defence. The press service of the Ministry told us that this status is ensured only after the court decision. They also recommended us to address the department of licenses and permits of the MIA of Dagestan for a permit to bear some traumatic weapon," Mr Nabiev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Lawyer Gazimagomed Khiriev said that no judgement is needed for getting state protection. "The Law 'On Stare Protection of Victims, Witnesses and Other Participants of Criminal Process' directly states that the judge, head of the body of inquiry or inspector, having received an application of a murder threat from a person, shall make a decision, within three days on measures of state protection. Once a criminal case has been opened, your inspector can easily solve this problem," the lawyer has noted.
