Inspector reprimanded for non-giving case materials to lawyer
On December 8, the North-Caucasian Military Regional Court upheld the decision of the Grozny Military Court passed in October on illegality of inspector's refusal to present case materials to advocate Yuri Kastanov who represented the interests of Katyr-Yurt villagers from Chechnya.
It turned out that the inspector's refusal was far-fetched - absence of advocate's access to secret documents. The inspector was reprimanded.
As earlier reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on February 4, 2000, with the aim to liquidate fighters of illegal armed formations (IAFs) who rendered active resistance after quitting Grozny and consolidating in Katyr-Yurt, Federal forces used artillery and aircraft missile and bombing attacks. Major-General Vladimir Shamanov was in command of the operation. According to witnesses and medical documents, in the course of the bombardment 46 peaceful residents were killed, and 53 more wounded, as the "Civitas" Agency reports.
