In Azerbaijan, relatives of imprisoned journalist worry about his health
Tofik Guseinov, father of Mushvig Guseinov, convicted and imprisoned journalist of the newspaper "Bizim Yol" (Our Way), has called the public of the country and international organizations to demand releasing of his son, who is suffering from tuberculosis.
On December 4, at the press conference held at the office of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS), Tofik Guseinov said that "Mushvig's condition not only remains grave, but continues worsening."
"Independent doctors confirm that treating him in custody is impossible. They assert that the first task is to bring down the temperature, but it is not done; and it is still above 38 degrees Centigrade. His one lung is already damaged by TB. He needs not only fresh air, but also vitamins; however, the main thing is to drive him out of depression. What the prison doctors do just supports his life, but this is not the active treatment he needs," said his sister Dilbyar Guseinova.
His father is ready to file a pardon application for his son and hopes it will be satisfied.
