TV channels break legislation

The mass media monitoring conducted by the Press Club of Baku during the pre-election campaign displays breaches of legal regulations and one-sided coverage of the election process by the media. Arif Aliyev, chairman of the Yeni Nesil journalist union, told it in his interview to the "Turan" agency.

As compared to previous campaigns, there is regress in the coverage of the elections by the media. The media have become more "booked up", the number of independent media has reduced.

Arif Aliyev also established abuses of journalists' rights in the course of the pre-election campaign. Most of such cases occurred when journalists were discharging their professional obligations. Incidents when journalists are intimidated and threatened with physical violence are not uncommon.
