Margaryan, Andranik

Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.

Born June 12, 1951, in Yerevan, in the family of natives of the city of Mush, Western Armenia.

In 1967, entered the Technical Cybernetics Department of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, which he graduated from in 1972.

In 1972 thru 1990, worked in Yerevan branch of All-Union Scientific and research Institute of Gas Industry, Computer Center of the Ministry of Trade, and some other organizations.

In politics since 1965. In 1974, was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for participation in Armenian national movement.

Since 1992, a member of Republican Party, member of the Council of the Republican Party of Armenia.

In 1995 thru 1999, was a deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia of the first convocation. In 1999, was reelected to the Parliament. Leader of the Unity faction. In May 2000, President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan signed a decree appointing Andranik Margaryan a Prime Minister of Armenia.

Andranik Margaryan is married, has three children and four grandchildren.
