Court upholds verdict to participants of attack on Budyonnovsk

The judicial panel for criminal cases of the Supreme Court has upheld the verdict of the Stavropol Territorial Court to Igor Sokolov and Abubakar Mezhiev, both aged 39, who took part in the attack on Budyonnovsk in 1995. They will serve their terms at the general regime colony, as the General Prosecutor's Office has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on July 17 the Stavropol Territorial Court found Abubakar Mezhiev and Igor Sokolov guilty of terrorism and banditism.

"The convicts disagreed with the verdict and appealed against it at the higher instance. However, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation upheld the verdict," the "Gazeta.Ru" quotes the message of a General Prosecutor's Office.

Igor Sokolov was sentenced to 13 years, and Abubakar Mezhiev - to 11 years of imprisonment in a general regime corrective colony, as reported by the "Rosbalt".
