Journalists of the Georgian "Imedi" TV Company have decided to apply to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in the context of the events on November 7, 2007, when actions of supporters of the opposition was severely suppressed in Tbilisi. This was announced by MP Giorgi Targamadze, leader of the parliamentary minority.
Mr Targamadze has reminded that on November 7, 2007, special fighters rushed into the building of the "Imedi" and forced journalists to stop broadcasting.
"Until now, no estimate of this attack against the freedom of speech has been made; nobody was punished; while the events demand both political and legal assessment. Therefore, we hold consultations with human rights activists and lawyers on filing a complaint to the international court," the "NEWSru.com" quotes Mr Targamadze.
The claim of the former "Imedi" journalists will be brought by the advocate, head of the NGO named "Priority of Human Rights" Liya Mukhashavriya. According to her story, now she is gathering information on every suffered journalist, as the "Interfax" writes.
Ms Mukhashavriya has added that she will represent the interests of at least 10 persons. The Government of Georgia will be the respondent. As of today, the Strasbourg Court has already accepted three applications from the victims of November 7, 2007.
