President of Chechnya calls Ahmed Zakaev a liar

On October 27, at the extraordinary conference of the regional branch of the "Edinaya Rossiya" Party, President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov characterized Ahmed Zakaev, former field commander and minister of culture in the government of Ichkeria, as a liar and hypocrite.

"I telephoned him and I wanted to help him in coming back home. I did it for him and for those people who had been deceived, gone abroad and are still there listening to his artistic speeches. In conversation with me Zakaev admired the changes underway in Chechnya and asserted that I'm the only person who had really managed to save the people. And then in media he told the opposite and blackened everything done in the republic. Who is he after that, if not a chameleon, liar and a hypocrite?" asked Kadyrov.

President of Chechnya has noted that Zakaev had accepted his offer. Through Magomed Khambiev (former minister of defence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, in March 2004 he surrendered to securities of Ahmat Kadyrov, - comment of the "Caucasian Knot") he asked to send someone to London, with whom he could come back home. "And when the time came to do it, he beat a retreat. No wonder. He's afraid to come home, being afraid of foreign special agencies. He's long been forgotten; therefore, he invented this imitation of his coming home to get reanimated and start his own PR-campaign," Mr Kadyrov has noted.

President of Chechnya said that Zakaev can live in London as long as he wanted. Nobody would ask him to return home, as reported by the "Gazeta.Ru" Agency.

The "Echo Moskvy" Radio adds that no Ahmed Zakaev's reaction to this statement followed.
