In Azerbaijan, protest action in front of Turkish embassy dispersed

Today, about 30 activists of the Organization for Liberation of Karabakh (OLK) tried to organize a protest action in front of the embassy of Turkey in Baku in the context of the Turkish-Armenian agreement on normalization of mutual relations.

The protesters started their march to the embassy with posters bearing the words: "Shame on Turkish authorities" and "Turkey, don't betray Karabakh". However, at the access to the embassy they were stopped by reinforced police units and persons in civilian. The police announced that the action was not sanctioned and asked the group to disperse. A confrontation burst out between the protesters and law enforcers.

Head of the OLK Akif Nagi managed to tell journalists that "the public of Azerbaijan does not trust the government of Turkey and demands not to ratify the Armenian-Turkish Protocols." "We came here to express protest against these treacherous plans," he said.

However, a few minutes later he was detained, together with five more participants of the action, and put into police cars. Other protesters asked to let them to the embassy for handing over the resolution of the picket; however, the police would not allow this and forced the group away.

The detainees were brought to the 20th station of the Nasimin District Police Department.

They were released two hours later. "We were warned and set free," Akif Nagi said in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and added that "the police have broken the citizens' freedom of assembly."
