Azerbaijan: widow and son of perished political prisoner suffer in road accident
The widow and son of Novruzali Mamedov, former head of the Talush Cultural Centre and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh), who died on August 17 in imprisonment, in the evening on September 26 received traumas after their car ran foul of a truck, which then disappeared from the venue. Earlier, relatives of the political prisoner had accused the authorities that Novruzali was killed in prison.
The message of the Institute of Reporters' Freedom and Safety of (IRFS) that has arrived to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on September 28 runs that the road accident took place when Maryam Mamedova and Emil Mamedov were on their way from the ceremony "40 days after Novruzali Mamedov's death", held in the Astara District, where the deceased was buried.
At about 9:00 p.m. local time, in the highway Astara-Alyat, near Alyat village, the Mercedes driven by Emil Mamedov, collided with a KamAZ truck. As a result, Emil Mamedov's both legs got broken and he was hospitalized to the resuscitation ward of Baku Clinical Hospital No. 1. His mother traumatized her left arm and is treated at home.
Khilal Mamedov, who headed the committee in defence of Novruzali Mamedov's rights, has confirmed the information about the road accident. According to his story, the KamAZ driver disappeared from the place of the incident, and "so far, nothing has been done to fins him."
No comments could be received at the Azerbaijani State Traffic Police and Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) because of the end of the working day.
