At UN General Session, Saakashvili promised to return Abkhazia back to Georgia
On Thursday, September 24, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili spoke at the sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations, drew parallel between the Berlin wall and loss of territorial integrity of Georgia, and promised to bring Abkhazia back into Georgia.
Mr Saakashvili was the last among 35 speakers. According to his story, Georgia, like last century's Germany, is "the nation with a deep wound" and with its own wall, which "cuts off the fifth part" of the territory and "splits Europe." Having expressed his regret of the proclaimed independence of Abkhazia, Saakashvili still named this republic "the cradle of the Georgian civilization."
"Since the times of Jason and Argonauts, Abkhazia has been the most valuable and lively part of our travel through the history. In due course, Abkhazia will again become what it was - the most beautiful part of Georgia," the "NEWSru.com" quotes the Georgian leader.
He did not mention particularly South Ossetia, but he said that a year ago his country "was attacked," the "Gazeta.Ru" writes. He did not mention whom he meant as the attacker, saying only that "their predecessors" had invaded Poland, Finland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan, and also "wiped Grozny off the face of the planet."
