Check point "Kazbegi-Verkhniy Lars" opened on Russian-Georgian border

In Kazbegi, on Georgia's border with Russia, the renovated check point "Kazbegi-Verkhniy Lars" was opened. It was modernized with the financial help of the United States of America under the programme "Strengthening of Safety of Georgian Borders".

The building of the check point is equipped with the most advanced equipment, including video monitoring cameras.

"Now, the frontier guards will be able to make use of the newest technologies. This will make their work easier," said Zaza Gogava, head of the Frontier Police of Georgia.

"In case of opening the border with Russia, the customs control will be carried out much more operatively; there will be no need to spend extra time on examining the freights. Besides, the check point is using additional security measures," Mr Gogava has noted.

Under the statement of John Teft, already former US ambassador in Georgia, "the building of the Lars check point is the fourth one reconstructed under the programme of the US State Department."
