Abkhazian delegation to visit Nicaragua

President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh plans to send an official delegation to the Republic of Nicaragua, "being guided by the desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas of modern life." This is stated in the letter sent on August 26 by Sergey Bagapsh to the President of the Republic of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega Saavedra.

According to Mr Bagapsh, the visit will take place on September 9-10, 2009.

The President has noted that "the courageous decision of the President of Nicaragua will get forever into the history of Abkhazian state and remain in memory of all those, who had strived to freedom and independence for so many years."

On behalf of Abkhazian people and on his personal behalf Sergey Bagapsh expressed sincere gratitude for Mr Ortega's support of recognition of independence of the Republic of Abkhazia. "Despite open political pressure of the international community, provoked by recognition of our independence, the Republic of Nicaragua remains committed to its decisions and is viewed by us as a reliable partner in development of mutually beneficial mutual relations," said Mr Bagapsh.
