In Georgia, Eka Beseliya's relatives detained

In Georgia, on August 19, employees of the territorial interior department of Adzharia detained in the city of Kobuleti the son and brother of Eka Beseliya, secretary general of the opposition party "Movement for United Georgia". Employees of the MIA accuse them of hooliganism; however, Ms Beseliya believes that her relatives are innocent and accuses power agents of "repressions".

As reported today by the MIA of Georgia, Rati Milorava, 17, and Sergo Beseliya, 25, were detained yesterday, together with Valery Kervalidze, 17, and Roin Tsagareli, 28, for inflicting physical and verbal insult to David Dzhaparidze, 31.

The incident happened in cafe-bar "Elza". According to the MIA, the detainee had first verbally insulted Mr Dzhaparidze and his wife; then, the incident grew into a fight; and employees of the cafe called police. "The detainees showed resistance to policemen and insulted them both physically and verbally," runs the MIA's statement as quoted by the IA "News-Georgia".

Eka Beseliya has categorically denied any involvement of her relatives in the incident. According to her story, a verbal skirmish burst out in the cafe between unknown persons; Rati Milorava and Sergo Beseliya tried to calm the arguing young men down. "The police arrived; those who initiated the skirmish ran away; and the police detained four persons, including my son and my brother," said Ms Beseliya. She has also treated the event as "repressions" by power agencies, the "GHN" reports.
