Defendant in Nalchik attack case asks for a break during Ramadan

At the trial on events of October 13, 2005, in Nalchik, defendants asked the court to make a break for Ramadan, the Moslems' sacred month.

Defendant Shavaev has moved such petition to the chair of the court. He asked to extend the pre-planned break on September, 7-11 by two more weeks. The petition will be discussed later.

Also today, the audience watched a video record with evidences of the amnestied Murat Abazov, which he gave to the investigation on December 19, 2005.

After the end of the film, the state prosecutor Shmatov asked Abazov, whether his evidences in the video were truthful.

Abazov answered that those evidences "were not truthful", as before the start of the recording he was instructed what to say. According to Abazov, he was forced to rehearse the drawing of a layout of how and where he had had to attack; and then, before the camera, he drew the layout anew in a couple of minutes.

Answering the questions of advocates and defendants, Murat Abazov said that he was brought to the video recording in the morning, before breakfast. He spent the whole day at the UBOP (Department for Fighting Organized Crime), the video recording was made after 6 p.m. and lasted for an hour. The rest of the time he was kept in custody without food. Besides, as he said, "he wanted to please the inspector" and said what the latter wanted.
