In Chechnya, three versions exist of attempt on Isa Yamadaev

The absence of any trustworthy information about the details of the attempt on Isa Yamadaev, committed in the evening on July 28 in Moscow, gives rise to various versions of the incident. Isa's relatives are sure that the attempt was initiated by the authorities of Chechnya, while the republic's law enforcers believe that it was staged. There is also an opinion that the attempt was a part of scenario aimed to discredit the republic's leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

"The gunman was detained, and the weapon of murder was taken away from him - a special pistol used only by GRU and FSB special units. Isa himself told us about it," a relative of the Yamadaevs said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, Isa did not disclose any particular details of what had happened, but he said that he managed to contact his killer, a former militant named Arbi, who was sent from Chechnya, and invited him to his flat in Odintsovo.

"There, in view of possible complications, Isa's friends, guys from GRU and militiamen were waiting for them. Having entered the flat, the killer suddenly opened fire on Isa, walking in front of him; but he was neutralized practically at once. He was promised three million dollars for murdering Isa," said the source.

However, the Chechen power agencies name the attempt on Isa Yamadaev, accomplished in Moscow, to be a simulation. "Some unknown killer, most likely, a finished drug addict, who would undertake anything for a drug doze; some unknown GRU agents or operative workers who waited for the killer in Yamadaev's apartment; Isa himself, either wounded or not, in spite of the fact that the potential killer shot at his back from the distance of a couple of meters; and, at last, the unbelievable sum of three million US dollars that the 'customer' had promised for liquidation. It's an obvious overrun," said a source in power agencies of Chechnya.

A little different estimate was made by one of local observers, a leader of a public organization. He thinks that now an opposition is being formed in to Ramzan Kadyrov out of former high-ranking Chechen officials; and this attempt is just a link in the chain of discredits aimed against the incumbent President of the republic.

"It's easy to notice that recently a whole squall of troubles fell down on Ramzan Kadyrov. The broad-scale special operation against militants, announced by him two months ago, gave no serious results, at least because the whole army of militiamen and soldiers of various subdivisions failed to find or liquidate any of notable leaders of the armed underground, not a single key figure from Doku Umarov's retinue," the contact said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Then, abduction and murder of human rights defender Natalia Estemirova, a resonant act of terror in central Grozny and, at last, an attempt on Isa Yamadaev. I dare to assume that all these events are somehow interconnected and have the aim to discredit Ramzan Kadyrov in the eyes of the federal Centre and to show his incapability," said the contact.
