Khazbiev: attempt on Evkurov stopped resettlement of refugees of the Prigorodny District

In early July, resettlement of the refugees from the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, living in Ingushetia, should have begun. However, it did not happen, as reported by Ingush oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev. The reason was in the attempt on President Yunus-Bek Evkurov. His Administration says that the agreement on resettlement existed, but particular dates were not specified.

According to Mr Khazbiev, the arrangement to start resettlement of refugees had existed between Presidents of Ingushetia and North Ossetia. "After the attempt on Evkurov this process was stopped," he said.

Kaloy Akhilgov, press secretary of the Ingush President, has confirmed that the Presidents had agreed that people would come back to all villages without any restrictions.

He continued: "Thus, the problem of 'impossible joint residence' would be removed. The villages, which get into the water-security zone, will be relocated to the nearest cottage settlements, which will be built before 2012."

He has added that there is no document to confirm it: "The work has started from this year, and since then, about 50 families of refugees have come back."
