Kamalov: violence against dissidents can blow Dagestan up by 2010

With the advent of a new MIA boss, the situation in Dagestan will improve only if violence against dissidents is stopped. This was stated by Dagestanian political scientist Gadzhimurad Kamalov in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Should application of illegal violence to banal nonconformity continue under the new interior minister, a crisis and outbreak of terrorist activity are near at hand - literally before the end of 2010, the complex destabilization will become irreversible," Mr Kamalov has stated.

In his opinion, destabilization in the republic is a consequence of the "super-high concentration of power in hands of former Interior Minister of Dagestan" Adilgerei Magomedtagirov, who was killed on June 5.

"Knowing the protection power and patronage of his boss - Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev, the late Adilgerei Magomedovich could afford ignoring certain orders of the Republic's President or even systemic decisions of the Security Council of Dagestan," the political scientist has noted.

Mr Kamalov has supposed that with the advent of a new interior minister the tension in the republic may dissipate.
