Magomed Khazbiev: Zyazikov is to blame for attempt on President of Ingushetia

The attempt on President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov was backed by former president of the republic Murat Zyazikov, the leader of the Ingush opposition Magomed Khazbiev believes.

"Zyazikov is guilty of everything that happens here. During his six years he drove Ingushetia into the state of civil war and robbed its whole budget. He did it and departed. Everything that happens here is on his head," Mr Khazbiev asserts.

In the opinion of the oppositionist, the attempt on Evkurov has nothing to do with his anticorruption activities.

Meanwhile, Vakha Chapanov, head of the "Maximum" News Agency, has assumed that it Evkurov's war on corruption could provoke the attempt.

He has also noted that the attempt can be backed both by militants and those who disagreed with Evkurov's policy. "New appointments, dismissals, dispersal of ministers. From the date of his appointment he was very tough to bureaucrats," Mr Chapanov has explained.

The "Echo Moskvy" Radio reported earlier that Stepashin, head of the Russian Federation Audit Chamber, had stated that the attempt on Evkurov could be caused by his struggle against corruption.

Evkurov himself linked, in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" and "Gazeta.Ru", his war on corruption with extremism in the republic. In particular, he noted that arrests of corrupt officials show the youth a serious authority's commitment to set up justice, which slackens social tension and protest inspirations and helps to persuade people not to help militants.
