Russia's GPO appeals against acquittal verdict on Politkovskaya's murder

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of the Russian Federation has submitted to the Supreme Court the final version of the official protest against the Court's verdict on the murder case of Anna Politkovskaya, journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta". The GPO demands to cancel the acquittal verdict.

Until now, the case was at the Moscow Regional Military Court where the parties in trial got acquainted with protocols of judicial sessions and made their remarks on them; today materials of the case went to the Supreme Court.

"The Supreme Court has received the materials of the case and the GPO's cassation presentation on the verdict," said Alexander Minchanovskiy, the press secretary of the Court.

During three months, public prosecutors, together with the investigatory group, developed arguments in support of verdict cancellation.

Their document of more than 50 pages presents a complete analysis of strong and weak points of the investigation. Having studied the protocols of judicial sessions, they moved a number of claims against the course of litigation.

After the Supreme Court studies the materials of the case, the consideration of the cassation presentation will be appointed at its Military Board, as the ITAR-TASS reports.

The Supreme Court can return the case for a new consideration, having replaced the judge and the board of jurymen, as the "Life.ru" reports.
