Seven parties found eligible for parliamentary elections in Chechnya

Seven out of eight regional branches of political parties, which have announced about their intention to take part in the parliamentary elections to be held on October 12, have got registered by the Chechen Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it at the Republic's CEC. At its regular sitting, the Commission has made a decision to register lists of candidates for the Republic's parliament from the regional branches of three parties: "Patriots of Russia", "Popular Union" and "Party of Peace and Unity". Earlier, the Chechen CEC made nonofficial registration of candidates from "Yedinaya Rossiya" (United Russia), "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) and LDPR (Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia).

Only the regional branch of the Russian "Green" Ecological Party failed its registration at the CEC. The Commission asserts that it was established during examination that over 2500 voters' signatures out of the total 13,000 gathered in support of the "Green" candidates were falsified. The spokesman of the "Green" Party gave his comment to this CEC's decision as follows: "I knew in principle that we (the "Green" Party) have little chances to get to parliament, and now I see that I was convinced again what 'free and fair' elections they would be," he said. "I don't understand, for example, why when the CEC considered the documents of 'Yedinaya Rossiya', two representatives of that Party (Dukvakha Abdurakhmanov and Abdulbek Vakhaev) were present there, and the former read a lecture about his Party and then immediately received a candidate's certificate?"
