"Heritage" Party accuses Armenian authorities of beating lady-journalist from "Aikakan Zhamanak" newspaper

In Armenia, the opposition party named "Heritage" asserts that the authorities of the country became accomplices of beating a journalist of the "Aikakan Zhamanak" newspaper.

"No intimidations and beatings will force free media to shut up," said Stepan Safaryan, deputy of the National Assembly from the "Heritage" faction, when making his comments to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on the attack on August 11 on the well-known oppositional journalist Lusine Barsegyan.

He has reminded that Ms Barsegyan was exposed to violence in the presence of policemen and on the day of presidential election on February 19 at the polling station No. 13-16 in Erebuni Prefecture in Yerevan.

Let us note here that on August 12 the parliamentary faction "Heritage" and the party of the same name disseminated a statement resolutely condemning the beating of the journalist.

On the eve, a statement condemning the attack on Lusine Barsegyan was also made by Armenian Ombudsman Armen Arutyunyan.

Ms Barsegyan herself relates the attack with her professional work. According to her version, during the last month the newspaper published resonant and critical materials on the activities of Ovik Abramyan, head of the President's office, Samvel Aleksanyan, a well-known oligarch and deputy of the National Assembly, and Mger Sedrakyan, Prefect of the Yerevan community Erebuni.
