Vartanyan: I hope Bush will use the word "genocide" when addressing the natives of Armenia

According to Arpi Vartanyan, regional director of the Armenian Assembly of America in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, she hopes that George Bush, who is nearing the end of his US presidency, will fulfil his pre-election promise and use the word "genocide" in his annual speech addressed to the Armenian community of the USA instead of previous "more flexible" formulations.

Ms Vartanyan told about it to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

As she said, the stand of some congressmen, who say they feel uncomfortable with recognizing today the fact of genocide, is erroneous. "In fact the genocide against Armenians makes also a part of the US history. The archives of this country keep documents confirming the facts of the genocide against Armenians," said Vartanyan.

"Being an American, I state that the USA, as the world leader, should not pursue the double-standard policy and recognize the fact of genocide of Armenians. The Armenian community in the States is still demanding that the US government admit the fact of the genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire," Ms Vartanyan has stated.
