Anna Politkovskaya is awarded the "World Press Hero" title

The International Press Institute (IRI) has awarded the title of the "World Free Press Hero" to Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya posthumously.

Awarding the honourable title to Politkovskaya is "a recognition not only of her courage, but also of courage of many journalists who work in Russia," Johannes Fritz, director of the IRI, has declared, the "Interfax" reports.

We remind you that Anna Politkovskaya, journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" who was shot dead on October 7, a bit later than 4:00 p.m. in the doorway of her house in the Lesnaya Street in Moscow, was known first of all for her materials on Chechnya and North Caucasus. The last interview in her life, that she gave almost an hour before her death to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" was also on Chechen topics, namely, the career perspective of Chechnya Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov and extortion of money from residents of the Republic executed under his guidance.
