Georgia creates a commission on Georgians' human rights violations in Russia

The Georgian parliament is founding a special commission "to study facts of breaching Georgians' rights in the Russian Federation," the RIA "Novosti" reports. This was announced today at the press conference by Maia Nadiradze, leader of the pro-president fraction "National Movement." "In the nearest future, a delegation of the Council of Europe's monitoring group will come to Georgia," Ms. Nadiradze said.

"The task of the parliamentary commission is to study all the facts and details related to oppressions, to which citizens of Georgia were subjected in Russia, and to present the fullest possible information to the Council of Europe's representatives," Maia Nadiradze stated, the IA "Novosti-Georgia" informs.

In January 2007, a report will be presented to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on facts of xenophobia and violations of rights of citizens of Georgia in Russia. This decision was made at the sitting of the PACE's Monitoring Committee in Yerevan on October 16.

Besides, as Maia Nadiradze reported, a conference of the Rome Statute will soon take place on the issues of genocide, xenophobia and human rights violations.
