Politkovskaya's last interview was about Ramzan Kadyrov

The correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" was the last journalist to take interview from Anna Politkovskaya. In a telephone talk one and a half hours before her death, Anna Politkovskaya commented on Ramzan Kadyrov's carrier prospects and the stormy construction process unfolded in the restless Russian province on the eve of Chechnya Premier's jubilee. Besides, the observer of the "Novaya Gazeta" told that for the reasons known to her Kadyrov will never manage to become president of the Chechen Republic.

"I can't know whether Putin wants to appoint him president of Chechnya or not. But I think it will not be done for many reasons - I'll confine myself to this formula only," Politkovskaya said to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot." Ramzan Kadyrov himself, according to her words, "just lusts after" being officially appointed to be the head of Chechnya, "he is dreaming of it."

Earlier, on October 5, in her interview to the "Echo Moskvy" Anna Politkovskaya also spoke of Kadyrov. Then she mentioned that she was running a journalist's investigation into the crimes of the head of the Chechnya government.

"The journalists who do not know the region say that he (Kadyrov - Ed.) is reviving Chechen traditions. It's all nonsense. He destroys them," Anna Politkovskaya asserted.

"This is an armed to the teeth coward sitting surrounded by his guards. I think he will not become president," the journalist told then. "I have a deep, a sort of internal conviction, maybe even an intuitive, but in no case a rational one, which is in no way confirmed by Alu Alkhanov. Alu Alkhanov is a very weak person. This is his problem, and in much the growth of Kadyrov's "dragonism" was caused by it. I have only one personal dream on Kadyrov's birthday. I speak absolutely seriously about it. I dream to see him in the prisoner's dock, and to see the strictest judicial procedure taking place with enumeration and thorough investigation of all his crimes."

Journalist Yulia Latynina, Anna Politkovskaya's colleague, said that Ramzan Kadyrov was responsible for her murder, reports the web-site "Press-attache.ru" with a reference to a live broadcast of the "Echo Moskvy" radio station. "It was either a present for Ramzan Kadyrov's birthday, whose personal enemy Politkovskaya was considered to be, although it is a question whether he needs this present," she noted. "Or it was an attempt to demonstrate to Moscow that Kadyrov is uncontrolled." In any case, in Yu. Latynina's opinion, "the killers will never be found."

We remind you that Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the "Novaya Gazeta," was shot dead on Saturday October 7, in Moscow. Journalists, human rights activists and public representatives find her death to be a blow on unbiased journalism and democracy in Russia.
