Eleven candidates stand for Sochi Mayor

On March 20, the City Electoral Commission received notifications about intention to stand for the post of the Mayor of the city of Sochi from self-nominated candidates - entrepreneur Anatoly Parshin and unemployed resident of Sochi Yuri Danilevskiy.

Thus, there are already 11 candidates to the post, namely: two Sochi pensioners Arutyun Vareldzhan and Victor Zuikov; military pensioner Sergey Bernasovskiy; unemployed Yuri Danilevskiy; Director General of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Erlen Russian Airline" Nikolai Kuznetsov; lawyer of the Krasnodar Regional Bar Nadezhda Stupak; Director General of the Limited Liablity Company (LLC) "Southern Managing Company" Anatoly Parshin; head of the Public Movement "Arm Wrestling Federation" Stanislav Koretskiy.

Besides, the oppositional movement "Solidarity" has nominated Boris Nemtsov, former Russian Vice-Premier, as a candidate for the post of Sochi Mayor. The candidate from the Sochi City Branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) is its First Secretary Yuri Dzaganiya, while the candidate from the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party is Victor Kurpitko, head of the local party branch.

It is possible that State Duma Deputy Andrei Lugovoy will be nominated as candidate for the Mayor from the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR). The intention to run for the Mayor was expressed also by a well-known Russian politician and businessman Alexander Lebedev and ballerina Anastasiya Volochkova.

Anatoly Pakhomov, the nowadays acting Sochi Mayor, said on air of "Echo Moskvy" Radio that he has not been nominated yet but it can be done in the near future.

The early election of Sochi Mayor will take place on April 26. The deadline for lodging applications is March 26.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report.   • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
