Finnish lady-journalist wants to tell the truth about Ingushetia

Anna Lauren, a Finnish journalist and a correspondent of the state-owned TV and Radio Company "Yuleisradio", has come to Ingushetia with the aim to make reports; she is now writing a book about Northern Caucasus and warfare during the Russian-Georgian conflict in 2008, willing to help residents of her country "to have a sober look at the Caucasus."

According to her story, she wants to present at home, in Finland, a truthful story about the life of the republics of Northern Caucasus, especially about the situation with violations of human rights. In her conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Anna Lauren said that it was her second visit to Ingushetia.

"I think that what happens in Ingushetia is a real lawlessness. The situation is not much better than in Georgia. However, the western world doesn't think it to be a big tragedy. I want to show that Ingushetia has serious problems. One should look at the Caucasus with sober eyes," said Anna Lauren.

The "Yuleisradio" correspondent named her overall objective of the present visit to Ingushetia to talk to people and independent human rights activists. "I met people, whose children were kidnapped. And I sincerely sympathize with them. I want to tell their stories, although I can't bring their children back," said the journalist.

According to Ms Lauren, in Finland people know little about Ingushetia - they know only that it exists and that the authorities there fail to properly care about their people. In Finland, there is little trust in official reports on events in the Caucasus.
