Musayev claims that defendants' complaint was sent to the officer investigating case of Politkovskaya murder

The complaint about torture and beatings of Ibraghim and Dzhabrail Makhmudovs, defendants accused of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya , was considered by investigating officer Petros Garibian who was investigating the case itself. Garibian found no facts of violence or humiliation with regard to Makhmudovs.

This has been related to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Murad Musayev, lawyer of the Makhmudov brothers.

"During the first months following their arrest, in September 2007, Dzhabrail and Ibraghim were subjected to regular torture. They were requested to confess. Dzhabrail claimed that they put a sack on his head and saying "well, is the Monomakh's hat heavy?" strangled him. Additionally, they hit him with a plastic bottle filled with water", stated Musayev.

Musayev filed a complaint addressed to Yuri Chaika, Russian Prosecutor General. However, the complaint was sent to Garibian, the same senior investigating officer on most important cases who was investigating the case.

"When they were held in 38, Petrovka, Dzhabrail remembered the office number in which he had been beaten, that was 608, in the main building of the MoI department. I came to the room and found the investigating officers there. I simply talked to them and said I would file a complaint against their actions. To my surprise, on the following day the Makhmudovs were transferred to the pre-trial prison and no complaints about torture came from there", claims Musayev.

According to the lawyer, it is virtually impossible to prove the fact of torture and humiliation. "It is always going to be claims of several investigating officers against the claims of my defendants", notes Musayev.
