Dagestan: public prosecutor asks 16 years of tight security for Babaev's killer

In Dagestan, the public prosecutor demanded 16 years of imprisonment in a tight security colony for Rasil Mamedrizaev, who was found guilty yesterday, on January 20, by jurymen of murdering Farid Babaev, leader of the Dagestan branch of the "Yabloko" Party.

The "Gazeta.ru" reports that the prosecution asked the court to sentence defendant Rasil Mamedrizaev to 16 years of imprisonment with serving his term in a tight security colony.

State accuser Gusein Alilov took in to account Mamedrizaev's previous conviction (he was sentenced in October 2008 to 4 years and 7 months of imprisonment under article 222 ("Illegal circulation of arms").

Meanwhile, as Radio Liberty reports, the "Yabloko" Party finds the jurymen's verdict on the murder case of Farid Babaev, leader of the Dagestan branch of the Party and candidate for deputy, to be "extremely inconsistent."

In the opinion of Sergey Mitrokhin, the "Yabloko" Party leader, who was present at the court session, the contradiction lies in the fact that the jurymen agreed that the crime was accomplished by an organized group but refused to recognize it to be a contract murder. The acquittal of the second suspect also looks unpersuasive.

The verdict on case will be announced on Thursday, January 22.
