In Krasnodar Territory, ecologists are against building a road across "Bolshoi Utrish" Wildlife Reserve

In the Krasnodar Territory, ecologists plan to object to the plans, according to which the "Bolshoi Utrish" Wildlife Reserve near the city of Anapa should be cut apart by a road; and its most distant parts will become accessible for motor vehicles.

"The territory of the Reserve is unique," said Andrei Rudomakha, head of the Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus, "since it is the only Russian massif of the relic Mediterranean nature, the preservation of which safety has the global value. The road, which is built now, brings a risk of its complete destruction, since it is directed right into the depth of the Reserve with an exit to the coast of the Black Sea."

Dmitri Shevchenko, a Krasnodar-based employee of the "Ecological Watch", has explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that local residents also resolutely intend to defend the unique territory. Besides, they plan to strain their efforts for bringing those guilty officials, despite their ranks, to criminal liability.

According to the ecologists, the construction was launched by the LLC "Glavpromstroy". It is in charge of mass felling and cutting the road route by bulldozers. Along with other trees, as ecologists insist, several varieties of juniper are liquidated, included into the Red Books of Russia and Krasnodar Territory.
