SC of Karelia starts trial on disorders in Kondopoga

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Karelia has begun a trial on the criminal case about the fight in the city of Kondopoga on August 30, 2006, which grew into mass disorders.

Andrei Vorobyov, press-secretary of the Supreme Court, has informed that the court started the consideration on the merits.

Earlier, the Karelian SC had postponed the trial planned for July 16 till July 21, explaining the delay by organizational problems in the work of the Court.

The Court was forced to postpone its sessions for several times because of non-appearance of advocates. Besides, the Court returned the case to the Republic's Investigatory Department for elimination of mistakes made while translating the documents into the Chechen language.

According to the ITAR-TASS, the new translation of the indictment on the case made over 1400 pages.

Six natives of Chechnya and Dagestan are defendants in the case. According to the investigation, they initiated the fight on August 30, 2006, with residents of Kondopoga.
