Stavropol krai residents mourn for the deceased Alexander Solzhenitsin

Stavropol krai where Alexander Solzhenitsin was born mourns for his death. Crepe tapes are hanging from all buildings connected with the writer's life.

A burial service was held at the St. George the Victorious Cathedral at the town of Georgiyevsk where the parents of the Nobel Prize winner are buried. Alexander Solzhenitsin headed the board of guardians on restoring this cathedral ruined in 1930's and made a big contribution into its revival, including personal contributions.

Alexander Solzhenitsin, the outstanding Russian writer, Nobel Prize winner, died on the night of August 4 in Moscow. Valeri Gayevski, Governor of Stavropol krai, expressed his condolences in connection with the death of Alexander Solzhenitsin to his widow Natalia Solzhenitsina.

Parents of A.I. Solzhenitsin are buried in the town of Georgiyevsk: his father Issaki Semenovich and mother Taisiya Zakharovna. Immediately after his return from America, the writer went to Georgiyevsk and tried to find his parents' burial place. He was not able to find his father's grave. According to some data, it ceased to exist, along with the graves of other residents, due to "the town development plan ".
