Stavropol townspeople hold support action for political prisoners
In Stavropol, five people have taken part in the party of writing letters to political prisoners.
On December 27, the Stavropol office of the "Yabloko" Party held a party of writing letters to political prisoners. Five people took part in it, said Anatoly, the coordinator of such parties.
The parties of writing letters to political prisoners are held in Stavropol on the last Friday of each month; the participants themselves choose addressees. "Based on open sources of human rights organizations, we prepare lists of political prisoners; and at our parties, each participant chooses who to write to," said Anatoly.
In his opinion, the number of people persecuted for their thoughts and beliefs is increasing every day. "Each of them needs our support and help. Unfortunately, our possibilities are currently very limited. Despite this, we have a safe way to provide support – to write a letter to a person. It doesn't take much time and effort; but it will help a prisoner to survive this difficult time, not to break down and give up, remain a human despite everything that happens to him/her," Anatoly has explained.
Taking part in these events has some "therapeutic effect on the state of mind," Vladimir, one of the participants of the past party, has noted. In his opinion, "in the 21st century there should not be any people suffering hardships for their thoughts and beliefs."
