Activist attacked in Kabardino-Balkaria, sources report

Zurab Khatsukov, an activist of the initiative group standing against the construction of a waste sorting complex near the village of Urvan, was attacked. As a result, the activist was brought to a traumatology ward in a hospital and diagnosed with a brain concussion.

On May 31, residents of the Urvan District requested the leader of Kabardino-Balkaria to reconsider the decision to build a waste sorting complex near the village of Urvan. The people claim that the decision has been made without taking into account the views of residents who are suffering from the existing landfill.

All the videos posted in the Zurab Khatsukov’s YouTube channel concern the village of Urvan, including the construction of a waste sorting complex. In one of the videos, Zurab Khatsukov talked about receiving threats from an official.

Zurab Khatsukov, an activist of the initiative group standing against the construction of a waste sorting complex near the village of Urvan, was attacked by a son and a brother of a local school employee, the “Dorogoy Pravdy Kabardino-Balkarii” (Along the Road of Truth in Kabardino-Balkaria) Telegram channel reported.
