Professor Khokonov suspended from work after being reinstated

Murat Khokonov, who after his dismissal achieved reinstatement in his position at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, said that he had received an order suspending him from work.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 22, the Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria upheld the lawsuit of Professor Murat Khokonov, who challenged his dismissal from the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU), and decided to return him to the position of the head of a department.

The professor was dismissed from his position on September 4, 2023, after he travelled to Turkey to attend a wedding party of his friend’s daughter. Murat Khokonov was dismissed “for terminating access to state secrets.” Murat Khokonov himself connected the dismissal with his speech delivered at the academic council, where he highlighted the problem of the low level of salaries for teachers at the KBSU.

“The public greeted the reinstatement of Murat Khokonov with satisfaction. And his repeated removal is seen as a challenge. Murat Khokonov is well-known not only as a scientist for whom scientific interests are more important than his personal interests. He is also respected as a public figure,” wrote an author of the blog on “Caucasian Knot” entitled “Nalchik and its neighbours. The Caucasus in search of justice”.

YouTube users came out in support of the professor.

“It turns out that we should not be surprised that all smart and competent specialists are leaving our republic. The shortage of personnel is being provoked by [officials] who believe in their impunity,” wrote user kr8il2go2c.

Let us remind you that in October 2023, activists appealed to the leader of Kabardino-Balkaria in connection with the dismissal of Murat Khokonov. A lawyer noted that the professor had the lowest level of access to state secrets, which did not ban him from traveling abroad.
