Karachay-Cherkessia marks National Revival Day with memorial events

Participants of an official event in Karachaevsk, dedicated to the Karachay People Revival Day, paid tribute to the memory of those perished during the years of deportation. Book and photo exhibitions were opened in the republic on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the return of Karachay people from exile.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2023, the procession, which usually took place in Karachaevsk on the Karachay People Revival Day, was cancelled for security reasons. From a formal point of view, the Karachay people have been completely rehabilitated, but the process cannot be considered completed, historians have point out.

Participants of the memorial event held in Karachaevsk at the Memorial to the Victims of Repression of the Karachay People paid tribute to the memory of fellow countrymen who perished during the years of deportation in Central Asia and Kazakhstan, announced in his Telegram channel Rashid Temrezov, the leader of Karachay-Cherkessia.

Let us remind you that the deportation of Karachay people began on November 2, 1943. In total, during the pre-war and war times, 79,000 people of Karachay nationality were deported from their homeland. Most of the repressed (more than 43,000 people, including 22,000 children) perished on the road and in places of resettlement.
