In Karachay-Cherkessia, woman arrested in case on spoiled ballots

A court has placed under arrest a resident of Karachay-Cherkessia, who was detained at a polling station for damaging with paint the filled-out ballots at the Russian presidential election.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 15, at a polling station in the Malokarachaevsky District, a local resident poured a paint into a ballot box. Investigators reported launching an investigation into the case on obstruction of the exercise of voting rights. The article provides for punishment ranging from a fine of 80,000 roubles to five years of imprisonment.

On March 15, at least four similar cases took place in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD). So, in the Rostov Region, the police detained a resident of the Azov Region, who also poured “green liquid” into a ballot box at a polling station.

In Mozdok, a young woman doused the voter lists with iodine and was detained.

At a polling station in Sochi, a local woman also poured a paint into a ballot box. A court placed the 62-year-old woman under house arrest until May 15.

The Election Commission of the Volgograd Region reported that a woman from Volzhsky poured brilliant green into a ballot box. All of those ballots can be used in the vote count because voter markings are “distinguishable and not in doubt,” the Election Commission reported.
