At least seven persons detained in cities of Southern Russia at rallies in memory of Alexei Navalny

The police detained at least 105 people in Russian regions at rallies in memory of Alexei Navalny, including four in Astrakhan, two in Sochi, and one person in Vladikavkaz. The above information has been reported by the “OVD-Info”* human rights project.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that by March 1, in different regions, including North Ossetia, law enforcers detained at least 21 people in connection with the Alexei Navalny’s funeral.

On March 2, it became known that in Sochi, Mikhail Bormotov was detained at the monument to the victims of repression, where he came on the day of the Alexei Navalny’s funeral with flowers and a portrait of the oppositionist. Law enforcers issued a warning and released him, Mikhail Bormotov said.

Astrakhan, Sochi, and Vladikavkaz are among the cities of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD) where people were detained by the police. So, in Astrakhan, at least four persons were detained. Two persons were detained in Sochi, and at least one in Vladikavkaz.

On March 2, in Sochi, the police did not permit a local woman to lay flowers at the monument to the victims of repression, claiming that laying flowers was only permissible on October 30, the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression.
