Mobilized resident of Rostov Region sentenced for leaving his military unit

The Novocherkassk Garrison Court found mobilized Vadim Idiyatullin guilty of abandoning his military unit. The convict himself explained his action by his wife’s serious health problems.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that after the announcement of mobilization in Russia in September 2022, parts of Article 337 on unsanctioned abandonment of a military unit or place of service during the period of mobilization were introduced into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. In particular, in October, a military court sentenced a contract soldier from Dagestan under the above-mentioned article to 5.5 years of imprisonment for more than six months of absence from his military unit.

The Novocherkassk Garrison Court pronounced a suspended sentence to mobilized Vadim Idiyatullin, who left the temporary deployment point of his military unit on November 14 last year, the “Kavkaz.Realii”* reports.

Vadim Idiyatullin explained his action by his wife’s miscarriage, about which he was very worried. After leaving the front zone, the man lived in hotels and drank alcohol, and on December 16, he came to the military investigating department. The court cited the man’s participation in the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine and the award of the departmental medal “For Distinction in Service” as mitigating circumstances, the court’s official website reports.
