Support for Palestine by residents of Northern Caucasus is not unconditional

The Muslims living in the republics of Northern Caucasus are mostly sympathizing with Palestine, but the issue of the conflict is not the main one in the society. The sending of peacemakers to the conflict zone offered by Ramzan Kadyrov is unlikely, since the decision should be made by Russian authorities, who have called on the parties to negotiate, scientists, activists and journalists from Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and Dagestan have stated.

The hostilities between Israel and the Hamas movement began with the firing of hundreds of missiles into Israeli territory on October 7, including at civilian targets and civilians. In Israel, during the attack undertaken by the Palestinian movement, 1300 people were killed and about 3300 were wounded, the "Kommersant" has reported.

Albert Darbazanov, an activist of the Ingush national-cultural society "Daimokhk" (Fatherland), has partially agreed with the position of the head of Chechnya. "Undoubtedly, peaceful residents are absolutely not to blame for what is happening, both Arabs and Israelis. What is happening now is the fault of the world community's inaction, including the United Nations, whose resolutions on the creation of a Palestinian state were never implemented," Mr Darbazanov has stated.

In his opinion, the military support for Palestine will not result in the problem solution.

There is no request in the society to provide assistance to Muslims of Palestine, Timur Tenov, a political analyst, an associate professor at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, has noted. "There is, of course, condemnation of Israel's actions, which result in civilians' deaths, but Hamas' actions are not openly supported by anyone," he has stated, adding that Russia cannot render support in this situation.

"I fully support Ramzan Kadyrov's statement. We see the outright hypocrisy of Western countries in relation to what is happening in the Gaza Strip and in general in relation to what is happening between Palestine and Israel ... We can state that the majority of Muslims in Northern Caucasus support his position," Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" outlet, has stated.
