Defence reports deterioration of Musaeva’s health state

Zarema Musaeva, who is being kept in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Grozny, needs a full medical examination, her defence states. An advocate reports that Zarema Musaeva has got high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels and that she suffers from regular nosebleeds.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 4, the Akhmatovsky District Court of Grozny sentenced Zarema Musaeva to five years and six months of imprisonment, finding her guilty in a case on assaulting a policeman. The advocates of Zarema Musaeva intend to file an appeal against the verdict, as they considered it unreasonable.

The health state of Zarema Musaeva has deteriorated significantly during her stay in the SIZO. The detainee has to significantly increase the dose of insulin she takes during the time period spent in the SIZO. “Two toes on her foot have lost their normal colour. They have turned blue, which indicates the death of nerve endings and, possibly, tissues,” reports Alexander Savin, an advocate from the “Team Against Torture” (TaT)*.

Zarema Musaeva says that her health state is deteriorating and she needs a qualified medical examination outside the SIZO.

Since mid-May, Zarema Musaeva began to suffer from frequent and prolonged nosebleeds, several times a week. In late May, an ambulance was called for Zarema Musaeva in the SIZO.

*The “Team against Torture” (formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
