Relatives of Dagestani Zelimkhan Zankarkhanov claim fabrication of his criminal case

Zhannat Akhkubekova, a resident of Dagestan, has held a picket against the arrest of her brother, Zelimkhan Zankarkhanov. They planted weapons and grenades on him; and the case itself arose because of her conflict with her ex-husband, who has links in law enforcement bodies, she is convinced. Law enforcers found a grenade and some weapon under the mattress of Akhkubekova's brother, but law enforcers had no right to search the house, Ruslan Umaev, an advocate, has pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 19, Akhkubekova held a solo picket in Makhachkala with a demand to release her brother, who was arrested on June 13.

According to her version, her brother's problems are the result of revenge from her husband because their eldest son, after graduating from school in the United Kingdom, ran away from his father, who at that time parted with his mother, and preferred to live with her. Besides, Akhkubekova stated that her husband has links in law enforcement bodies.

She has stressed that her brother was unreasonably charged with possession of an unregistered weapon, since he had all the documents in order; and the weapon that law enforcers had found was a mock-up of a revolver.

Her brother had a skirmish with a traffic police officer last year. "He is a quick-tempered person; his car was stopped, an altercation began, which escalated into a collision. In March, the court sentenced him to a fine under the article "A threat of using violence against a state officer," Zhannat Akhkubekova has explained.
