"Alternativa" reports man's liberation from slavery in Dagestan

Victor Ryzhkov, a resident of the Altai Territory, has been freed from slavery at a brick factory in Dagestan. However, he refused to write an application against those who kept him in slavery, the "Alternativa" movement against slavery has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the above "Alternativa" has repeatedly informed about cases of liberation of people from labour slavery in the North-Caucasians Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD). Thus, on June 13 this year, it became known about the release of two men, Mukhamet Khudaiberdin and Mikhail Giska, who were forced to work for free at a construction site in Dagestan. After their release, they wouldn't turn to the police. Khudaiberdin explained that he was afraid of revenge from business owners.

"Recruiters" are looking for potential workers at railway stations of Moscow, Saratov and other large cities; most often, victims are people from provinces who come to cities in search of work.

Victor Ryzhkov, 44, was freed from labour slavery in Dagestan; he was held at a brick factory in Kaspiysk, the "Alternativa" has reported. Ryzhkov was about to go home to his family, but in Moscow he was offered a job in Dagestan; the conditions seemed attractive to him. Victor was brought to Dagestan, his documents were taken away, and he was threatened with reprisals and connections with law enforcement bodies. He contacted his relatives who turned to the "Alternativa", says the movement's page in the Instagram*.

The movement has earlier freed people who were enslaved at this factory in the Karabudakhkent District. The factory owners noticed Victor's escape attempt and brought him back, taking away his phone; they also noticed a volunteer who came to help Victor. The factory bosses assured the volunteer that all the workers were there of their own free will, but they had to let Victor go.

Labour slavery is a problem characteristic of all of Russia, Oleg Melnikov, the head of the "Alternativa", said in May 2019. According to his story, only those who themselves declare that they are forced labourers can be helped to get out.
