Activists confirm transfer of Selima Ismailova, who escaped from domestic violence, to Chechen law enforcers

Law enforcers from Chechnya have taken the 20-year-old Selima Ismailova away, Sofia Rusova, a lawyer from the Centre for the Protection of Domestic Violence Victims, has confirmed. The aircraft, on which, according to human rights defenders, a ticket to Chechnya for Ismailova was bought, has departed to Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 12, it became known that Chechen law enforcers had arrived at the Moscow airport to pick up Selima Ismailova, who had fled from domestic violence. The law enforcers bought an air ticket for her to Grozny.

"On the second attempt, policemen allowed Selima to be taken to hospital, as she felt bad. Doctors examined her, found nothing and returned to the Vnukovo Airport. In the morning, advocates were told that there would be a transfer procedure," Sofia Rusova said, as the "Kavkaz.Realii" project reports.

Let us remind you that human rights defenders asserted that Russia needs to adopt a law that would prohibit relatives from approaching victims of violence or returning them to their families with the help of law enforcers. Legal mechanisms fail to work; abductions of violence victims by their relatives fail to entail criminal liability for the abductors; while authorities prefer to ignore the problem. All the known measures to counter domestic violence may be useless, especially in the Caucasus, rights defenders have concluded.
