Law enforcers torture suspect accused of setting fire to Krasnodar military registration and enlistment office, his advocate reports

Law enforcers tortured Oleg Vazhdaev with electric current and demanded from him to name the Ukrainian customers standing behind the arson of the military registration and enlistment office in Krasnodar. Oleg Vazhdaev had to incriminate himself, his advocate stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 25, 2022, an unknown person tried to set fire to the military registration and enlistment office in Krasnodar. The man was frightened off by Cossacks and policemen on duty at military registration and enlistment offices. In November, Oleg Vazhdaev was charged under the article on a terror act because of an arson attempt.

On September 30, Vladimir Tsimlyansky, the spokesperson for the General Headquarters, announced that all acts of setting fire to military registration and enlistment offices would be classified as terror acts and perpetrators could face up to 15 years of imprisonment.

Oleg Vazhdaev told advocate Aleksei Avanesyan that after he had already confessed to trying to set fire to the military registration and enlistment office, law enforcers put on a gas mask on him to drown out his screams. Then they threw him to the floor and connected electricity to his shins. After each of the electric shocks, of which there were at least three, the law enforcers requested a confession from the man, the “Sota” Telegram channel reported.

According to Oleg Vazhdaev, as he wanted to stop torture with the electric shocks, during which he was required to name “Ukrainian customers,” he said that a package with 5000 US dollars was waiting for him at a post office. In fact, only a parcel with a pendant ordered by Oleg Vazhdaev waited for him at the post office.

Since February 24, 2022, when the special military operation in Ukraine began, there have been at least nine attempts to set fire to the buildings of the military registration and enlistment office and administrations in Kuban, in the Volgograd and Rostov Regions. The arson of the administration building of the Zimovnikovsky District of the Rostov Region was classified as a terror act.

On February 14, it became known that the court found a 19-year-old resident of the town of Gukovo in the Rostov Region guilty of disorderly conduct and attempted destruction of property when setting fire to the military registration and enlistment office on May 13, 2022, and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment in a penal colony.
