Fine imposed on Sochi woman for status in Korean on WhatsApp surprises social media users

A court in Sochi has fined a local resident who, the day before, posted a translation of a pro-Ukrainian slogan into the Korean language as her WhatsApp status.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 4, 2022, liability for discrediting the Russian Army was introduced, after which the country's residents began to be prosecuted for speaking out against the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Thus, on January 30, Alexei Ovchinnikov from Krasnodar was detained after talking in a restaurant with his wife about the SMO and arrested for 15 days for petty hooliganism.

Victoria T., a Sochi resident, was accused of displaying Nazi symbols after she set her status on the WhatsApp, the translation of which from Korean forms a pro-Ukrainian slogan, the “OVD-Info”* human rights project has reported in its Telegram channel.

Many commentators were surprised by law enforcers’ prompt reaction to the status in the Korean language.

"They’ve found her within a day, haven’t they? Why can’t they find killers and rapists so promptly?" Evgeny Vasilenko has expressed his expectations.

“I wish they could find scammers that call people and steal money so quickly,” Alexander Vasiliev has expressed his wish.
