Court closes case of gay propaganda at a fashion show in Makhachkala

A court in Makhachkala has dismissed the administrative case against Elnara Askerova, a designer, accused of gay propaganda after a video of a private fashion show was circulated in social media. The decision to stop the case was announced by Alexandra Miroshnikova, the press secretary of the SK SOS Crisis Group.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October, social media users reacted violently to a video from the opening of a boutique in Makhachkala, where two young men in feminine images took part in the show. Svetlana Anokhina, a journalist, reported that after the show its participants and spectators faced threats. The SK SOS Crisis Group reported that the police had opened a case against Elnara Askerova for promoting non-traditional sexual orientation, although the video from the show was distributed not by her, but by some "proponents of morality" who had secretly filmed it.

The Makhachkala boutique "Gray House", the opening of which was marked by the above resonant show, was positioned as a women's one. After the scandal, the boutique was closed.

The participants of the show did not agitate anyone; therefore, they cannot be prosecuted for promoting homosexuality, lawyers believe.
