Dagestani court overturns sentence to law enforcers on Kurashova's torture case

The appellate instance has overturned the sentence of the former policemen convicted of torturing Yulduz Kurashova in Khasavyurt, and sent the case back for a new trial.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 10, the Khasavyurt court sentenced the policemen, Shamil Aliev and Ramazan Saipulaev, to 3.5 years in colony each, finding them guilty of torturing Yulduz Kurashova and falsifying evidence in the case of the illegal sale of a potent drug. The court also found that a detective, Maya Akhmedova, was involved in the falsification; she was sentenced to a year of probation.

The case of abuse of power with the use of violence was initiated after Yulduz Kurashova complained about the harsh detention and coercion to sign confessions to the sale of drugs.

Let us remind you that law enforcers detained Yulduz Kurashova, who was riding in a taxi with her girlfriend, on March 26, 2020, in Khasavyurt. According to Kurashova, she was beaten up, insulted, threatened with deprivation of parental rights and initiation of a drug dealing case.

Kurashova was detained as part of law enforcers' routine work; and she got bruises when she resisted them, the defendants' advocate has stated.
